| Lisa Sylvia MD, FAAP, Pediatrician |
Dr. Lisa Sylvia joined the medical staff at Community Health Programs' CHP Health Center in 2005. While actively building her practice at the Health Center, she also works as an administrator for quality performance projects at Fairview Hospital.
As an individual who is committed to community service, Dr. Sylvia is involved in projects that address community needs such as family literacy and universal access to nutritious foods. She has spoken on the subject of obesity and its effects on children at a regional conference addressing healthy eating and food in public school systems. It is her belief that there is a growing role for pediatricians in advocating for public school environments to become more conducive to children's health and well-being. Extremely concerned about the rising obesity she sees among her young patients, Dr. Sylvia is committed to a preventive, educational and family-centered approach to preventing illness in her community.
Dr. Sylvia earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 2000. While in medical school, she volunteered in the physician-supervised Bridge Over Troubled Waters program, where she treated runaway teens around the Boston area. Dr. Sylvia completed her residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, where she was Chief Resident, and her primary continuity clinic at a primary care health center in the borough of Brooklyn that served populations of lower socioeconomic status from diverse cultures. Dr. Sylvia graduated cum laude from Boston University School of Medicine in 1995 with a Bachelor’s Degree in biology. During her college years she participated in the Habitat for Humanity program, an experience which inspired her lifelong commitment to working with families in need.
