CHP Mission & Facts

CHP Quick Links:
CHP's mission is to provide accessible care and services to improve the health and well being of residents of all ages living in Berkshire County and adjacent communities, regardless of insurance status, immigrant status, or ability to pay.

Since its creation by Dr. Thomas Whitfield in 1975– when it was known as Children's Health Program – Community Health Programs has grown to currently serve more than 5,000 people annually in its six core programs. In addition, CHP reaches many more people as an active partner in the Network for Rural Health Care. The primary CHP service area encompasses Great Barrington, Lee, Lenox, Alford, Becket, Egremont, Monterey, Mt. Washington, New Marlborough, Otis, Sandisfield, Sheffield, Stockbridge, Tyringham, West Stockbridge and Richmond - an area locally referred to as "South County."

The region is a federally designated rural community and a Medically Underserved Population Area.
